About Wes Hope

WES HOPE painted throughout his life, initially in London after graduating at Goldsmith's College of Art where he was taught by Albert Irvin and Basil Beattie, and then in Spain for a number of years. He eventually returned to live in Deptford, London, and a few years later moved to Wales where he lived with his wife and two daughters, until his death in 2005.

Despite a life dedicated to painting, (he painted virtually every day), he never exhibited a single picture. Indeed, apart from his home in Wales, the only work to be seen was stacked up in his studio. With the exception of three paintings, all the work he completed during many years in Spain was lost in a fire after he had returned to England.

The 23 pictures I am displaying here are some of the Welsh paintings that he photographed and sent to me during the last year of his life. They are roughly in chronological order (most recent first), and they represent just a fraction of his life's work.
